Quillie Nelson’s Live Music Recommendations in Austin, Texas
Howdy! I’m Quillie Nelson, an Austin native with a great love for music and mealworms! I’ve scoured the city and compiled my favorite venues to visit just for y’all. Here’s hopin’ you see one you like and pay ‘em a visit, I know they’d really love to see you! Now, keep in mind, this list is in no particular order, there’s no rankin’ here, just good times and good snacks.
1. Yellow Jacket Social Club
This little gem is not only a music venue, but also a dog friendly restaurant with delicious sandwiches and mixed drinks! Not that I would know, I’m not much for sandwiches, I like cat food personally. Besides music, they also do a lot of art exhibits, fundraisers, and parties so there’s always something going on!
2. Lustre Pearl
With 2 locations in Austin, on the Eastside and Rainey, Lustre Pearl has room for everyone! They’re a mainstay for SXSW and always have local artists on stage to discover! Every Monday they even host the Austin Cornhole League.
3. Austin EastCiders
From the heart of Southeast Austin in 2012, Austin EastCiders has had a boom of popularity and stolen the hearts of Texans everywhere. Me and the gang have loved getting visit them for some awesome "Hoppy" Hour events. The Collaboratory is the perfect spot to relax, try a new cider from their long list of choices, and watch a local band jam out!
4. Broken Spoke
This one’s very special to me, a true Texas Dancehall. George Strait, Garth Brooks, and my namesake, Willie Nelson all have professed their love for this Austin staple. Dolly Parton even filmed a movie here, what more can you ask for? Chock full of Texan idols and local artists, there’s no better home for a country soul.
5. Emo’s
The prime Austin venue, Emo’s has been a part of this city since 1992. It moved to a larger, grander venue on Riverside in 2011, making space for more artists and more music fans. For the quintessential venue experience, Emo’s can’t be beat.
